Restrict size of signature field

Peter van Meijel 9 months ago • updated by Peter Van de Lageweg 8 months ago 7 1 duplicate

As an administrator, I want to restrict the size of a signature field so that I don't have to deal with signatures that have various sizes.

(WHY) The size of the signature field depends on the user's device. As a result, signatures may have different sizes, which makes it difficult to deal with.

(WHO) Administrator

(WHAT) Restrict size of signature field

Current Situation

The size of the signature field depends on the user's device. As a result, signatures may have different sizes, which makes it difficult to deal with.

When a signature field is very wide, users tend to put the signature in one part of the field (see screenshot 1).

When the signature field is rendered on another device, it is resized in such a way that its aspect ratio got lost. This is undesirable.

Acceptance Criterea

We try to store images in the same aspect ratio, so that it is relatively easy to resize those signatures.

We use an aspect ratio of 1/6. For each pixel that the signature field is width, it is 1/6px height. So when a reference field is 600px width, it is 360px height)

Duplicates 1

I am a little confused concerning the acceptance criteria :

"The signature field should get a maximum width of 380px, so that signatures are stored in one size. "

Regarding the story the width is max 380 px, so not all signatures have the same size, right?

What about the max size height, could we set this to max 200 in respect to this sentence :  "it still should store a signature in the dimensions 380x200px" ? (just to be sure)

Well the idea here is that a signature is always stored in the dimension 380px (width) x 200px (height). If a signature field does not have that width (for instance because it is on a mobile device with a small screen), we still store it in the dimension so that resizing the signature in a template yields predictable results.

I should vote for the: 'keep aspect ratio' per default so the user only sets the width, and the height keeps aspect ratio.

Preserving the aspect ratio is key in this feature request. Just like preventing the user from having a large input field where he can put it's signature on the far right or left or just filling a very small part of the resulting image.

So if we are using a really small device like a smart watch (220x176) the signature input field becomes 220x116? And the resulting image will still be 380x200? If so, I am fine with that.

It's hard to tell for sure if the size of 380x200 will prevent unclear signatures but I think it's ok to start with.
